Κonstantinos Kouroupis is the academic coordinator of the Jean Module EUDACY.
Dr Konstantinos Kouroupis is an Associate Professor of European and Data Rights Law and Vice-Head of the Department of Law of Frederick University, in Cyprus. His area of expertise are online protection of privacy, security and data rights, artificial intelligence, digital law, human rights and European Law. He graduated in Law from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and he was awarded an LLM Diploma in European Law. He holds a PhD title from the University of Macedonia in Greece, in the area of EU Data Rights Law. He has participated as a speaker and keynote lecturer on data rights, privacy and EU issues in numerous international conferences. Some of his studies have been uploaded to the digital library of EUROJUST, in Hague and are accessible from a large number of prosecutors, judicial officers and administrative staff of the European agency. In 2018 he delivered a speech on “National and European legal framework on Cybersecurity and data protection” as an expert and on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, during an international exercice under the supervision of European Defence Agency, held at Zenon Coordination Centre, in Larnaka, in Cyprus. He has participated in European projects and actions funded by the EU concerning the consolidation of a European area of justice and human rights, such as TreaJus and European Parliament School Ambassador, providing his services both as evaluator and project manager. He has served as a Management Committee Delegate, representing Cyprus, in the framework of the European Cost action entitled “Global Digital Human Rights Network”, under the auspices of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST). He is a member of the editorial board of esteemed peer-reviewed law journals. In addition, he is the author of several legal books and has published numerous articles, both in greek and English as well as in French to esteemed international peer-reviewed journals. He is also member of the pool of experts of the European Data Protection Board in the field of Data Protection and New Technologies, upon evaluation. Since August 2023 he has been appointed as a member of the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee upon a decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus for a period of 4 years. Assoc.Prof.Konstantinos Kouroupis as a module leader of EUDACY and project manager will be responsible to ensure realization of Project activities according to the plan with projected budget. He will teach two courses in the EUDACY Module (total of 90 hours in three years). He will also be in charge of the organization of events and deliverables.
Dr. Christos Clerides is a Professor of European Law at the Department of Law at Frederick University and Vice-Dean of the School of Business and Law. He was born in 1954 in Nicosia. He got his LL.B (Hons) from Brunel University, Uxbridge having been awarded the First Price for the best examination performance in 1976. In 1977 he got his LL.M specializing in Maritime Law, Carriage of Goods by Sea, Marine Insurance and General Insurance at the University of London, University College. His performance made him eligible for scholarship. In 1981 he was awarded his Ph.D. at King’s College, University of London, specializing in European Union Law. For his Ph.D at King’s College he worked under the supervision of Professor A. Chloros later the Greek Judge of the European Court of Justice and Professor Francis Jacobs, later Advocate General of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. His thesis, Conflicts of Social Security Laws in the European Committees was approved by an External Board of examiners, Professors K. Lipstein of Cambridge and Hartley of The London School of Economics in 1981. He worked in England as part of his LL.B (Hons) sandwich course with CITY Solicitors, Barlow, Lyde and Gilbert, under the supervision of the late President of the Law Society, Sir Denis Marshall. He is a practicing Advocate and head of the Phoebus, Cristos Clerides & Associates Law Firm since 1982. He handled before the Supreme Court of Cyprus numerous cases and he also practices in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. He was a cofounder with Judge of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, L. Loucaides, of the International Association for the Protection of Human Rights in Cyprus in 1999. He served as Honorary President and President of the Association. He was Deputy Chairman of the New Horizons Party and elected Member of House of Representatives of the Nicosia District 2001 – 2006 and Deputy elected in 2006 - 2011 with the European Party. He was a member of the National Council, the highest authority advising the President of the Republic on the Cyprus problem up to December 2004. He served in the Human Rights Committee, the European Law Committee and the Legal Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives. He has tabled numerous laws and questions to Ministers in the House and has participated in numerous official delegations on behalf of the House of Representatives. He served in the Assembly of the Western European Union and its Committees in Paris as a member of the Cyprus team. He also attended numerous meetings of the Mediterranean dialogue of the NATO Assembly. He has written numerous studies and articles in Legal affairs magazines and in the local press. He served as a member of the Family Law Reform Committee 1983 - 1986 the report of which was adopted in substance culminating in the amendment of the Cyprus Constitution and the introduction of the New Family Law in Cyprus, abolishing the exclusive jurisdiction of the Ecclesiastical Court, in matters of divorce. He has participated and organized numerous Human Rights conferences and meetings in Cyprus. Prof. Clerides will provide support to Project manager in order to realize Project activities according to the plan. As a senior researcher he will also take part in all activities including the organization of events and deliverables. He will teach one course in the EUDACY Module (total of 45 hours in three years).
Dr Vasiliki Karagouni is an Associate Professor of Public Law / Comparative Law and Head at the Law Department of Frederick University. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and was awarded her Master’s Degree and her PhD from the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She is a Lawyer at Supreme Court, member of the Athens Bar Association since 2005, and has handled in whole or part more than 200 litigation cases in all fields of public law. She has participated in scientific researches financed by the European Union and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, concerning public issues, human rights, and the incorporation of European Directives in the Greek law system. She is a proficient user of Greek, English and French and has very good knowledge of German and Russian. She served as an Editor of an international collective book as well as a Project Manager of a Collective Research Project, funded by Frederick University. She is also the editor of the Code of Conduct against sexual harassment in the framework of Frederick University’s relevant policy as well as she is a member of the Equality Awareness Committee of the University. Assoc.Prof. Vasiliki Karagkouni participated in numerous research projects, providing her services both as a co-ordinator and researcher. Dr Dimitrios Devetzis is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Law at Frederick University in Cyprus. He serves as Teaching Fellow at the Faculty of Law of Leibniz Universität Hannover in Germany and is a Visiting Professor at the Orthodox University of the Congo, in Kinshasa., Dem. Republic of Congo. He graduated with a "first class honours" degree from the Faculty of Law of AUTH. and with the same distinction he received his LL.M. degree in Civil, Civil Procedure and Labor Law from the same Faculty. During his studies he was repeatedly a scholarship holder of the Greek national Scholarship Foundation (‘’I.KY.’’), as first-class student. From the same Foundation he was granted a scholarship for the preparation of a doctoral thesis after his successful participation in the respective pan-Hellenic exams. He also holds a Master’s degree in European Law from he Faculty of Law of the Leibniz Universität Hannover (grade: "excellent"). At the same School he finished his doctoral studies, receiving a DAAD scholarship and being awarded his PhD degree (grade:” excellent’’). He has worked at the Legal Service of the European Commission, in Brussels, and is included in its lists of specialists experts in matters of Law and Technology and Civil law. He speaks five foreign languages. Dr Dimitrios Devetzis will provide support to Project manager in order to realize Project activities according to the plan. As a senior researcher /teacher he will also take part in all activities, including the organization of events and deliverables. He will teach one course in the EUDACY Module (total of 45 hours in three years).
